Spy shots: New details on Lamborghinis Murcielago replacement Pictures

Lamborghini recently launched its new LP670-4 SV, a car many believe to be the final evolution of the Murcielago platform, but work is already well underway for an all-new supercar set to arrive in just a couple of year’s time. This new Lamborghini will have some tough competition when it arrives as there are new supercar models in the works at rival brands Ferrari, McLaren, and Aston Martin. While it’s still too early to speculate on the final specs, there are several crucial details we can gather from recent spy shots of a test-mule captured at Germany’s Nurburgring, as well as new reports coming out of Germany.

Mounted to each wheel of this test-mule is a RoaDyn torque sensor that is used to monitor the different forces and torque levels exerted on a specific wheel at different speeds.

Nissan launches 370Z Nurburgring Edition in Europe Pictures

In Japan and the U.S. the Nissan 370Z is available in a high-performance Nismo trim but for European fans the specially tuned coupe is strictly off limits. As some solace, Nissan is offering its European customers a special edition model named after Germany’s renowned Nurburgring circuit.

The special edition model is inspired by the yellow Nissan 370Z race car that took part in the recent Nurburgring 24-hour race. It features a number of performance modifications and is limited to just 80 examples.

Spy shots: BMW releases official teasers for new X1 Pictures

The next couple of years will be very busy for BMW as it launches a handful of new models including new versions of current top sellers and some models we’ve never seen before. The new X1 falls into the latter category and will take the carmaker into the compact SUV market currently dominated by the likes of the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V.

The latest round of spy photos, released as official teasers by BMW, reveal the vehicle in the least amount of camouflage yet, essentially showing off its outlines and curves.

New American supercar aiming to break Nurburgring record Pictures

Late last week it was revealed that Chrysler has only received one serious bid for its Dodge Viper business, which has been up for sale since last August. Even with the car’s instant recognizability, street cred and stunning performance, the entire business – including a 392,000 square foot assembly plant – could only muster a low-ball figure of $5.5 million.

That figure was offered by American motorsports company Devon Motorworks (DMW), which hoped to use the plant to build its very own supercar, the GTX.

Volvo promises diesel electric plug in hybrid by 2012 Pictures

Struggling Swedish automaker Volvo has announced that it will releasing a new plug-in hybrid vehicle by 2012 as the latest step under its ‘DRIVe Towards Zero’ eco-campaign. Today’s announcement also signals the formation of a joint-venture with Swedish energy supplier Vattenfall to help aid with the development of the automaker’s first production plug-in hybrid and future all-electric models.

The two companies have already an agreement in place since 2007 to develop the technology together, and early last year Saab also joined the team.

Spy shots: Porsches next gen Cayenne spotted again Pictures

Prototypes for Porsche’s next-generation Cayenne have been spotted testing in Germany on several occasions, revealing crucial details for the new SUV which is expected to go on sale by May 2010. First and foremost, we know the next Cayenne will be smaller than the current model although it will still share a common platform with the next-generation Volkswagen Touareg and Audi Q7, both of which are not expected to change significantly in size compared with current versions.

The smaller size of the new Cayenne agrees with Porsche’s desire to create a much more hard-core performance SUV than the current model, which has been criticized for being too heavy.

Hyundai’s Confusing Monthly Cash-Back Commercials

Hyundais Confusing Monthly Cash Back Commercials Pictures After using the innovative incentive programs Hyundai Assurance and Assurance Plus to ride out the economic storm, Hyundai is touting a new program, promising that if a customer buys a vehicle before June 30, the automaker will send him or her six months of cash payments.

The ads are a bit on the misleading side, however, as Hyundai is not actually offering a new deal or adding any additional money. Rather, it’s giving consumers the option to take the cash back offered on their vehicles in the form of six monthly payments rather than one lump sum.

Say you buy a 2008 Veracruz that already has a $4,000 cash-back offer. Rather than getting a $4,000 price reduction, you can opt for six monthly payments of $666.67 to a Visa debit card. In other words, it’s a different package for the same offer.

There’s also a possibility that Hyundai is cluttering its offers and that this deal will get confused with its Assurance plan, which allows for the return of a car if the buyer loses his or her job. Why not just say, “This car will cost $4,000 less”?
