GM Ends Production of Medium Duty Trucks
Posted on 03. Aug, 2009 by admin.
As reported by our friends at Automobile, the last GM medium duty truck rolled off the assembly line last week in Flint, Mich. The white GMC Top Kick C7500 was the 205,790 GMT-560 built during an eight-year production run.
GM had been in negotiations with Isuzu and Navistar to sell its Top Kick and Chevrolet Kodiak Class 5-7 commercial truck business but a deal was never closed to save the line.
Ford and Chrysler have found success in this segment with medium duty pickups and chassis cabs that are closely related to their three-quarter-ton and one-ton pickups. Even Nissan has announced its intent to try to gain a slice of this lucrative business. Could GM eventually return to the segment with a new offering similar to Ford's and Chrysler's? Stay tuned.
In the meantime, we'll raise a toast to the last of GM's large work trucks.

New Lincoln Mark LT Spotted In Mexico
Posted on 02. Aug, 2009 by admin.
We hear from sources that “it looked much better in [modeling] clay.” The new Mexico-only Lincoln Mark LT, based on the 2009-10 Ford F-150 Platinum, has been spotted in production trim south of the border after we first spied it in March.
Lackluster sales led to the removal of the Mark LT from Lincoln’s U.S. lineup in 2008 but it was a relative success in Mexico, so the decision was made to continue production of the high-end hauler for Mexican truck buyers willing to pay a premium for the Lincoln logo.
The Lincoln Mark LT is expected to go on sale in Mexico by the end of the summer.
