Driven: 2010 Acura RL
Posted on 30. Nov, 2010 by admin.
It wasn’t in contention for the award this time around, but the 2010 Acura RL showed up in Hell a few weeks ago anyway, at the North American Car of the Year jury drives. For frequent flyer miles? To make a point? To have some awkward public confrontation with the nominees, a.k.a., a Sean Young moment? Nothing that dramatic brought it to Michigan…

Posted on 30. Nov, 2010 by admin.
When you think of sweet-sounding V-10s, the natural tendency is to think of Lamborghinis, or perhaps the Dodge Viper, though tend to find its (brilliant) engine to sound a bit truck-like despite its face-stretching performance. But one car you probably don’t think of is BMW’s M6. That should change. Equipped with an Eisenmann race exhaust, the…

Last week Ferrari boss Luca di Montezemolo took the wheel of the New Stratos on video, and came away looking pleased with what the Pininfarina-lead custom team had done to the F430 underpinnings. Capsule Review: 2007 Honda Accord EX V6
Posted on 30. Nov, 2010 by admin.
“Hurry up,” the woman at the counter said, “because when you get back they are waiting to take it to the auction.” The odometer read just over forty-nine thousand, eight hundred miles. It would have been temptingly romantic to think of this as a last ride on a trusty horse before it went to the [...]

Ch-Ch-Changes: 2011 Honda Insight
Posted on 30. Nov, 2010 by admin.
To better compete against the Toyota Prius, Honda has added more standard safety and content features as well as a new entry-level Insight hybrid for the 2011 model year.
The new entry-level trim will be called “Insight” when it goes on sale Wednesday; the LX and EX trims are still available. The model will be priced at $18,200, excluding a $750 destination fee. That’s $1,600 less than the 2010 Insight, making it the most affordable hybrid currently on the market.
The new entry-level trim comes with air conditioning; automatic climate control; power windows, locks and side mirrors; remote keyless entry; tilt/telescoping steering wheel and a basic CD player with two speakers and auxiliary jack.
All 2011 Insights now come with electronic stability control standard; it was only available on the EX trim last year.
The LX trim adds cruise control, a USB input, center armrest storage, security system and floormats to its standard features list.
The EX trim now has steering-wheel-mounted audio controls, which was exclusive to the EX with Navigation trim last year. Besides that, the EX remains unchanged, with alloy wheels, steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters, heated side mirrors with integrated turn signals.
The 2011 Honda Insight is rated at 40/43/41 mpg city/highway/combined, which is 9 mpg less than the Prius’ combined city/highway mileage of 50 mpg, but with $4,600 now separating the two models, the Insight might be a more attractive purchase for some.

Toyota Tackling Coolant Issue in 378,000 Toyota Prius Hybrids
Posted on 30. Nov, 2010 by admin.
Toyota plans to service about 378,000 2004-07 Prius vehicles in the U.S. over a potential coolant circulation problem, according to Reuters.
In the affected vehicles, the electric water pump may allow air bubbles to circulate, which could slow down the cooling of the hybrid drivetrain. In some vehicles, the hybrid components may overheat, causing the engine control module to switch the Prius to “fail-safe” mode, which will reduce the vehicle’s overall performance.
Toyota will begin notifying U.S. customers in early December but it may not push the fix through the typical recall channels. We will keep you apprised of the latest developments once Toyota or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration releases an official statement.
