2012 BMW M6 Convertible: Car Seat Check

Posted on 01. Aug, 2012 by in Auto News

The 2012 BMW M6 Convertible is a high-performance version of the 6 Series. From its supercharged V-8 engine in its very strengthened seats, almost everything about this top convertible screams aggressive. What they do not say is, family car, but as this four-seater has a back seat, we tried to install child safety seats.

For the Car Seat Check, we use a Graco SnugRide 30 rear-facing infant seat safety seat, a Britax Roundabout convertible child-safety seat and Graco high-back seat turbocharger.

The front seats are adjusted to a comfortable position for a 6-foot driver and a 5-foot-8 passenger. The three child seats installed in the second row. The child seat installed sitting behind the driver's seat, and the infant seat and convertible seats behind the passenger seat. We install the convertible seat in the second row of the middle seat with the booster and child seats in the outboard seats to see if three car seats fit. If there's a third row, we install the booster seat and a forward-facing convertible.

Here's how the 2012 M6 Convertible has in Cars.com 's Car Seat Check:

Latch system: There are two types of the lower latch anchor in M6 backseat. They are difficult to because they get too deeply buried between the stiff back and bottom cushions. The M6 Convertible is no tether anchor, and is not required because it is a convertible.

Booster seat: The rear seat bolsters are so large that the cushions of our high-back booster pushed off balance towards the center of the back seat. The fixed headrests also pushed forward again the booster is in an upright angle. A no-back booster might fit better in the convertible. The M6 seat belt buckle is on a stable surface so that seat belts for children easier.

Convertible seat: The forward-facing convertible fit not because of the reinforced rear seat. Eighty percent of a car seat needs to touch the bottom and back cushions, when installed, but the front was not convertible to sit in a position against the seat back or down flat because they are angled sharply. The car seat base was hanging out of the seat cushion, because the fixed headrest pushing it forward.

The rear-facing convertible fit in the M6 and the passenger had. A comfortable amount of head and legroom

Infant-safety seat: This rear-facing child seat was eating up so much space in the M6 Convertible is that we move the front passenger seat forward a few inches and adjust the backrest to an uncomfortable upright position had. This has. Pitch our tester with about an inch of space between the front and the sun visor

How many car seats fit in the second row? Two, but they would have to be directed back convertibles.

Editor's note: For three car seats – infant-safety seat, convertible and booster seats – to fit in a car, our criterion is that a child sitting in the booster seat must reach the buckle. Parents should also remember that they can use the Latch system or a seat belt to install a car seat.
