Report: GM-Isuzu Duramax Diesel Joint Venture At Risk?

Could General Motors go it alone building Duramax diesel engines for its Heavy Duty pickups instead of with manufacturing partner Isuzu Motors, Ltd? Isuzu President Susumu Hosoi said he's seeking talks with GM to review the companies' joint venture DMAX, Ltd. factory, where Duramax engines are produced in Morraine, Ohio, and that ending joint production “may be an option,” according to a report by Bloomberg .

Recall Alert: Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon, Isuzu I-Series Pickup Trucks

From our colleagues at Cars.com , GM has issued a recall for 185,903 GMT 355 series midsize pickup trucks, including the 2004-09 Chevrolet Colorado and 2004-09 GMC Canyon twins and badge-engineered 2006-08 Isuzu I-Series, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Recall Alert: 185,903 GM Trucks

GM has issued a recall for 185,903 pickups, including the Chevrolet Colorado from the 2004-09 model years, the GMC Canyon from the 2004-09 model years, the 2006 Isuzu I-280, the 2006 Isuzu I-350, the Isuzu I-290 from the 2007-08 model years and the Isuzu I-370 from the 2007-08 model years, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration . The recall is due to a brake-lamp switch that may not work because of contamination in the switch. This could mean that the brake lamps won’t work or will stay continuously lit, either of which could pose a safety hazard to other drivers who can’t see what the driver intends to do.

GM Ends Production of Medium Duty Trucks

As reported by our friends at Automobile , the last GM medium duty truck rolled off the assembly line last week in Flint, Mich. The white GMC Top Kick C7500 was the 205,790 GMT-560 built during an eight-year production run.

USA Today’s Best Clunker of the Day

We’ve been covering Cash for Clunkers in depth, but our friends over at Drive On, USA Today’s blog on all things automotive, have added a great feature — Clunker of the Day. Their initial post is terrific: A guy bought an Isuzu Rodeo two years ago for 600 bucks, complete with a real gunshot hole (not those tacky gunshot stickers), and just traded it in for $4,500 toward a new car.
