When involved in a crash, some vehicles are simply less costly to fix, and the affordability of those fixes is a strong factor in how much it will cost to insure a vehicle. Trucks and SUVs tend to have an edge, according to a government report that tallies losses of insured vehicles for 2007-2009. For instance, a Mercury Mariner is 59% cheaper to insure than the average vehicle, while the Chevy Traverse is 57% cheaper, making them the insurance champs of this report (although the Ford Econoline van is actually the top vehicle at 61% cheaper)

Ram-Based Hyundai Pickup Shelved; Commercial Line for U.S. Considered

Following up on the Hyundai pickup truck story from early this week and a second report Tuesday by Reuters, we have new information from a source inside Hyundai Motors Corp. Hyundai and Chrysler have held discussions about Hyundai building a pickup off the Ram platform, but those plans were shelved recently after both parties couldn't agree on production volumes that were being negotiated as part of a manufacturing contract between the two automakers, the source told us. Hyundai Rumored to be Considering Full-Size Pickup Truck

Hyundai is considering jumping into the full-size pickup segment, sources say. The Korean automaker, which has made major inroads recently into the American car and crossover markets with critically acclaimed new products, recently held research clinics with truck buyers in California and Texas using a Ram 1500 customized with a Hyundai-style grille and interior tweaks. The response from the focus groups was positive enough to keep the project moving forward, according to our sources.

Recall Alert: 2007-09 Dodge Ram Heavy Duty Pickup Trucks

Chrysler is voluntarily recalling 186,099 2007-09 Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 Heavy Duty pickup trucks equipped with 6.7-liter Cummins diesel engines to fix an issue that could cause the check engine light to illuminate or, under certain conditions, cause the engine to produce heavy levels of soot that could damage the turbocharger, exhaust gas recirculation valve and diesel particulate filter and result in increased emissions.

With zero-percent financing and up to $4,000 cash back when it’s all said and done, some of these deals may be worth a look. For 2010 Chrysler models, buyers can get zero-percent for up to 60 months, 1.9% for 72 months or up to $3,000 cash back.
