Plug-in electric hybrids and electric cars have taken up much of the digital airwaves over the past few weeks (or years, depending on your perspective), but it may surprise you to find out that “passé” full-size SUVs are increasing in popularity once again. So far this year, full-size SUV sales have increased 19%, beating overall industry growth of 17%. The full-size SUV category is composed of large body-on-frame SUVs, like the GMC Yukon, and large crossovers, such as the Lincoln MKT and Chevrolet Traverse. Ram-Based Hyundai Pickup Shelved; Commercial Line for U.S. Considered

Following up on the Hyundai pickup truck story from early this week and a second report Tuesday by Reuters, we have new information from a source inside Hyundai Motors Corp. Hyundai and Chrysler have held discussions about Hyundai building a pickup off the Ram platform, but those plans were shelved recently after both parties couldn't agree on production volumes that were being negotiated as part of a manufacturing contract between the two automakers, the source told us. Hyundai Rumored to be Considering Full-Size Pickup Truck

Hyundai is considering jumping into the full-size pickup segment, sources say. The Korean automaker, which has made major inroads recently into the American car and crossover markets with critically acclaimed new products, recently held research clinics with truck buyers in California and Texas using a Ram 1500 customized with a Hyundai-style grille and interior tweaks. The response from the focus groups was positive enough to keep the project moving forward, according to our sources.
