Ford Beats GM on Strength of SUVs, Trucks

Yes, Ford overtook GM in February as the country’s best-selling auto company for the first time since 1998, but it didn’t do it by selling a fleet of Fusion Hybrids ( Cars.com’s Best of 2010 award winner ). No, it beat GM by a mere 334 units with strong sales of its F-Series pickup and the Edge crossover and Escape compact SUV. Toyota’s sales decline in February gave the two domestic brands a chance to grab the sales spotlight, but those vehicle sales are still dominated by trucks and now crossovers

Engines, transmissions and chassis carry over from one generation to the next, with major redesigns often happening independently of body styles. Some features, like the Twin I-Beam front suspension, would prove to be central to the continued growth of the brand, spanning generations from its introduction in 1965 up to the tail end of the century.

Mercury to Get New Small Model

Mercury will get a new small car model, according to Ford executives. It will be based on the same platform as the new global Focus going on sale early next year, but whether it’ll be a twin to the Focus, like the Mercury Milan is to the Ford Fusion, is unclear.

Ford Powers Up New and Future Powertrains for F-Series Trucks

In the next year, Ford F-Series pickup trucks are set to receive three all-new engines -- a 3.5-liter twin turbo gasoline direct-injected EcoBoost V-6, a 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V-8 and a 6.7-liter turbodiesel Power Stroke V-8. There has been a lot of hype surrounding the introduction of Ford’s MyFord Touch system, and Cars.com reviewer Mike Hanley was lucky enough to get an up-close tour from user interface design engineer Jason Johnson. Called the MyLincoln Touch in Lincoln models like the MKX featured in this video, the system offers enough bells and whistles to add up to a minor revolution in how drivers interact with their cars.
