Trucks and SUVs Cheaper to Insure

When involved in a crash, some vehicles are simply less costly to fix, and the affordability of those fixes is a strong factor in how much it will cost to insure a vehicle. Trucks and SUVs tend to have an edge, according to a government report that tallies losses of insured vehicles for 2007-2009. For instance, a Mercury Mariner is 59% cheaper to insure than the average vehicle, while the Chevy Traverse is 57% cheaper, making them the insurance champs of this report (although the Ford Econoline van is actually the top vehicle at 61% cheaper)

Let’s say you’ve been researching a new car and, guess what, it’s been discontinued, dropped or replaced. If that model happens to be one of the eight models Automobile magazine lists as “Vehicles You Probably Didn't Know You Could Still Buy New,” you may still have a chance of acquiring one. Automobile lists models that were discontinued as long ago as 2007, but untouched leftovers are still being sold in 2010.

Ford Beats GM on Strength of SUVs, Trucks

Yes, Ford overtook GM in February as the country’s best-selling auto company for the first time since 1998, but it didn’t do it by selling a fleet of Fusion Hybrids ( Cars.com’s Best of 2010 award winner ). No, it beat GM by a mere 334 units with strong sales of its F-Series pickup and the Edge crossover and Escape compact SUV. Toyota’s sales decline in February gave the two domestic brands a chance to grab the sales spotlight, but those vehicle sales are still dominated by trucks and now crossovers

Mercury will get a new small car model, according to Ford executives. It will be based on the same platform as the new global Focus going on sale early next year, but whether it’ll be a twin to the Focus, like the Mercury Milan is to the Ford Fusion, is unclear.

Ford Issues Fix for 2010 Fusion Hybrid Brakes

New Study Has Ford Overtaking Toyota in Quality Perception

The situation just keeps getting stickier, so to speak. On the heels of its latest mass recall , a study released Wednesday reports Toyota fell to seventh place for 2010 models — from second place in 2009 — among 20 mainstream brands in perceived quality. Ford, meanwhile, moved from eighth place last year to sixth for 2010.
